Spotbot to the Rescue!

If you have kids or pets, then you know that they can try the patience of a saint with all their messes. Before buying one of these babies, I spent countless hours searching for the best way to remove stains, spills, and puppy accidents from my beautiful rugs. And folks, I promise you that nothing, absolutely nothing will ever replace my SpotBot. They will have to pry it out of my cold dead hands. ;-)

Spotbot to the Rescue…

So let me just tell you a bit about my personal experience. As I have implied, I have both children and pets (2 boys and 2 dogs, to be exact). Not long after getting my first fur baby, I began to loose my mind trying to maintain my rugs and carpets. Partly because one of my sons is autistic and was going through a particularly bad spell where everything seemed to end up on my floor, and I mean EVERYTHING! Then, add in a new puppy. What was I thinking?

So, that was 9 years ago – also the same time that I bought my SpotBot. Incidentally, I still have the same SpotBot. Yes, it has lasted 9 years. I am not sure if I just got one from an extremely good batch, or if this is their normal lifespan. All I know is that I have used mine enough to have expected to replace it 4 or 5 times over.

SpotBot Pet…

There are now several different types of portable cleaners that are sold by Bissell, but the one that I bought and will probably buy again is the actual SpotBot (now called SpotBot Pet).  It can be used on carpet, rugs, upholstery, and once I used it on a mattress.

The manual says to use their cleaning products, but I have to say that I have used vinegar/water and Simple Green just fine for pet accidents. I have also used Downy mixed with water for rinsing. (That gives a nice scent). None of these have caused problems for my machine. So, I am inclined to believe that Bissell solutions are not required.

SpotBotThe SpotBot Pet has both a handsfree or a manual setting. The handsfree part is a big round brush head that scrubs and sucks the mess away for you. You just set it and go.I hardly ever use the handsfree, but when I do I prefer to use it for stuff that has no bad odor. (So, not for urine, feces, or vomit). The reason why is that the brush can temporarily push particles deeper before lifting.

SpotBotSo, most of the time I use the manual wand. I have used it for cleaning spills out of my car, the floor mats, sofa cushions, and carpeted stair steps. But it has been the most useful at tackling spots on rugs and carpet.

SpotClean Pro…

SpotCleanIf you don’t feel like you would need the handsfree head, then Bissell has the SpotClean Pro, which is basically a SpotBot with just the manual wand. The biggest difference, besides the brush head, is the tank and the wand are bigger on the Pro version.

SpotClean ProThe tank holds 3x the amount of water as the SpotBot can. The wand is 6″ whereas the SpotBot has a 4″ wand. Also of note is that the suction is more powerful on this one. If I were buying again, I think I would try the Spot Clean Pro. Although it is hard to imagine anything better than the SpotBot Pet.

Final Thoughts…

If you are interested in purchasing either one of these, they are available at most department or hardware stores. You can also order one from Amazon through the links provided below, which by the way, are an affiliate for this site. I always disclose that information. However, if you are wondering, I only use product links that I myself have purchased and love. :-)
