My hearth room is the perfect place for a Christmas tree shipping crate stand. It looks very rustic and so, a rustic shipping crate has been on my list of to-do projects for a while. This year turned out to be the year!
Being a DIYing, organizing, obsessed, type person, I can really appreciate high quality, storage and organizing home products from other DIYers. That’s one of the reasons why I love shopping on Etsy. The farmhouse chic design style has become very popular over the past few years – mostly thanks to HGTV’s Fixer Upper. However, down here in the south, we have been loving the farmhouse chic design style much longer. You might call this a staple design for those of us in the heart of the bible belt. But now, with this style spreading like wildfire, I have been receiving so many requests for information – how to do it, where to buy the decor, etc – that I am finally caving in and giving you what you want. As promised, I am demonstrating how I made the cedar top for my DIY Island last week. This particular tabletop build is done using 6″ construction grade cedar planks. Now if you know anything about cedar, you know that the construction grade lumber is quite rough, and it may seem like an unusual choice for a DIY tabletop. However, it actually makes a beautiful rustic piece when done properly. In fact, if you try it, you may never want to use standard pine (most DIYer’s wood of choice) again.
