I have been an avid user of Photoshop for years. I actually started way back in 2001 using photo editing software. Back then I used Jasc Paintshop. But within a few years, I had switched to Photoshop. I am glad that I knew my way around it once I started blogging. It is probably the number one tool in my arsenal of blogging weapons, and with that tool, the most convenient editing skill is knowing how to create presets in Photoshop.
If you are anything like me, you rely on your iPhone to document a lot of important things in your life. Being a home improvement and DIY blogger, I find that my iPhone handles the brunt of the imagery. It’s just not that convenient to pull out all my gear while I am elbow deep in sawdust and paint. Therefore, snapping shots with my iPhone has really come in handy. Except, that is, when I need a wide-angle. No mater how far you zoom out, sometimes you just can’t capture everything. So, when I discovered how to take wide angled photos with an iPhone, I knew this was something that I wanted to share!
One of the first steps that you should take as a blogger is to create a clear and decisive comment policy. Back before I started this blog, I avoided all social media platforms like the plague. It sounds weird for someone who has a BBA with a concentration in information technology to say that. But, now that my job requires me to be active in social media, I am even more convinced than ever that it can be an emotional vacuum that sucks the very soul out of you.
Seriously, I am always amazed at how mean some people can be. I told myself going into this that I would need to develop a thick skin if I wanted to survive, but nothing can prepare you for some of the things that you may encounter. However, a good comment policy can help shield you and your viewers from the nay sayers and the Debbie downers.
I often get questions from new bloggers surrounding the issue of ads and affiliate marketing. Most of the time, they want to know how many visitors they need before they should accept advertising or become an affiliate. Well, that is really a loaded question, because every blog is different. Some people seem to become profitable with very little following. While, others struggle even after they reach high numbers. Figuring out the right time and formula for ads and affiliate marketing for bloggers can sometimes be tricky. I can provide you with a few formulas; however, there are a few other issues that you really ought to take into consideration when making your decision.
Naturally, there are going to be exceptions to the rules, but there seem to be some very big mistruths floating around about blogging. It boggles the mind to see all the “overnight successful bloggers” out there that are assuring you that if you just follow their plan, you will have overnight success, too. You may be left feeling like you must not have what it takes to make it as a blogger. Well, obviously if everyone else is seeing such overnight success, then you must be doing something wrong….right? No! You have just fallen into the trap of blogging truths and downright lies!
