Welcome back for round three of this year’s One Room Challenge. If you missed the previous weeks, let me quickly catch you up by saying that I am doing a renovation of my dining room and turning it into a dining/home office. This week’s project is to install a chevron plank ceiling. But not just any planked ceiling. This one is going inside my already beautiful tray ceiling.
Ceilings & Walls
How many times have you wished for a mud bench area in your garage (or house) to help keep all your outdoor things organized? I finally got around to adding one to my own garage, and I must say that this has got to be the easiest, DIY mud bench slatwall system!
Feature walls have been popular for several decades now. However, what is popular for a feature wall has evolved over time. Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, wallpaper made a great featured wall. (FYI: wallpaper is making a comeback). Then, during the late 90’s and early part of the new millennium, a painted feature wall was the in thing. But make way for the planked feature wall.
Wallpaper – Oh, the Horror!
Over the last few years, wallpaper has been making a comeback. Newer textures and more modern designs are available to bring your rooms into the 21st century. However, many people still suffer from the horrors brought about by wallpaper from the 20th century. Removal was difficult, and as a result unattractive prints remained on walls well past their prime. But you need not suffer from wallpapering PTSD. With the correct plan, it can provide nice detailing to an otherwise lackluster room.
The ceiling is hardly something that a person notices when they walk into a room, at least not consciously. However, whether you notice it or not, a ceiling does impact the way that you perceive a room – as demonstrated in another one of my articles, “The 5th Wall.” High ceilings make a room feel open and spacious. While, a low ceiling can either create a cozy feel, or a closed in feel. It all depends on how the rest of the room flows into the ceiling. So, l thought I would share with you how to create the illusion of high ceilings.
