I am so excited to be able to finally bring you all my home theater reveal. I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to be able to write an article on this project, because I had inadvertently deleted most of the photos documenting the process. However, I recently located an old iPhone that had been misplaced. Luckily, it had a few images that had been taken during the process. Not as many as I would have liked, and certainly not very good quality, but I am making do.
Renovate & Repair
An improperly aligned door can cause drafts and unnecessary heating expenses. Not to mention, it can cause damage from the wear and tear from the wood rubbing or pulling in areas were it otherwise wouldn’t. This is definitely one of those projects that I categorize as “Not Fun But Must Be Done.” But, it is also a relatively easy fix that will save a lot of repairs in the future. You can quickly get rid of gaps with these easy door alignment steps. So, on with it….
A Metallic Finish can unify pieces for a complete look
Old pieces can look fresh and new again with just a little paint and effort, and can even create a set from previously unrelated pieces. Just take a look at this cabinet and oil painting that were headed for the attic. The painting was one of my favorites, but although the previous gold, accented, frame worked nicely with my old paint scheme, it was really clashing with my current gray tones.
The cabinet, prior to this makeover, had a disjointed look to it. It looked as if it couldn’t make up its mind on which style it wanted to be – farm house or modern. The cabinet itself was a simple wooden frame with tin inserts in the door and sides. The frame was black (good for me) and the tin inserts were painted a yellow with rust red accenting.
Searching for the right sideboard
A few years ago, I bought a gorgeous, dining table for my hearth room, and every since I have been on the lookout for a sideboard that would look right with it. The table was one of those distressed tables that is made from reclaimed wood and, I wanted something that would look as if it was part of a set. Eventually, I came across a discounted sideboard (75% off) that had the right look, but unfortunately, the finish was a bit too red. It was also missing the legs, which was why it was discounted so much. Of course, I was not to be deterred…… so, on to refinishing the sideboard.
Take a look at your lamps, or any lamp for that matter. What initially jumps out at you? The lampshade, right? Well that’s what I noticed when I looked at my nightstand lamps. Unfortunately, they where just a boring, white, blah! So, I decided to give them a lampshade makeover.
