It seems like I am always adding new tools and gadgets to my workshop, but no matter how much I have, there is always something else that I know that I need. Trying to decide exactly what to buy and what to wait on can sometimes be confusing. Other than the actual tools that are needed to do a job, there is so much more that can be necessary. So, I took a good long look at my workshop and narrowed down an accessories list that I feel contains 10 workshop item must haves.
I love my Kreg Pocket Hole jig, but my favorite is the newest K5. If you enjoy DIY woodworking, a pocket hole jig is something that you should really consider. It makes it easy to make strong connections without needing a lot of specialty equipment. Also, the screws themselves act as a clamp, drawing the butt joints together. You don’t get that benefit from biscuits or dowels.
Self-Drilling Drywall anchors
I hate having to pre drill holes for wall anchors. Then, having to hammer the anchor into the wall, only to have the anchor fail, leaving a nasty hole in the wall. Not to mention, you can not get a fresh anchor to sit snuggly in the same hole. So, you are left with either trying a larger anchor or shifting over to a new spot on the wall. Plus, it is such a hassle lugging out so many tools (drill, drill bit, screw driver bits, hammers, etc.) just to hang one item. So, when I first discovered these self drilling anchors, I was apprehensive about their claims of ease and weight capacity. However, I decided to give it a go, and I am so glad that I did. I began using them for all of my interior wall decor that required anchors.
